Division/Classes

Wrestlers are divided by:

  1.  Age
    1.  see http://www.txusaw.com/page/show/928236-youth
  2. Weight
    1.  see http://www.txusaw.com/page/show/928236-youth
    2.  “Madison Bracketing” will be used for some tournaments at the tournament director's discretion and also for any scrimmages. This means the established weight classes will not be used.  Instead wrestlers will be grouped with other wrestlers that are close to the same weight.  This method attempts to group a bigger number of kids together to wrestle each other instead of having a bunch of weight classes that only have a few wrestlers in each class.
  3.  Experience
    1. ROOKIE wrestlers have never competed in wrestling before
      1. Except for some regional and national tournaments and the State tournament, Rookies and Novices may grouped together (i.e. R/N) to wrestler each other.  There is a separate Rookie State Tournament for true Rookies only. Rookies can always compete in the Novice and Open divisions.
    2. NOVICE wrestlers have only 1 year of experience
      1. Except for some regional and national tournaments and the State tournament, Rookies and Novices may grouped together (i.e. R/N) to wrestler each other. If the tournament offers Rookie and Open divisions only, Novices will have to wrestle in the Open division. There is a separate Novice State Tournament that is open to both Rookies and Novice wrestlers. Novices can always compete in the Open division.
      2. A novice wrestler who wins a R/N tournament with 4 or more wrestlers must move to the OPEN division for tournaments after January 1st (excluding the Novice STATE Tournament).
    3. OPEN wrestlers have two or more years of experience
      1. Anyone can enter an OPEN tournament, however, R/N wrestlers will wrestle OPEN wrestlers who have more experience.
      2. There are qualifying criteria needed to wrestler in the OPEN State Tournament as described below in “Misc info for tournaments”.
